For all who are interested in performing in our October 2026 production of The Pirates of Penzance, this page provides detailed information on both how to audition for a principal role AND how to join men’s or women’s chorus.
Please be sure to read IF YOU ARE PERFORMING WITH US which contains important additional information about performing with us and what will be expected of you.
All cast members, whether in a principal role or in chorus, must obtain their own copy of the G. Schirmer vocal score, which can be purchased at several on-line sites (e.g. at Amazon for ~ $24 + tax and shipping). Alternatively you can click THIS LINK to download, print, and bind the score yourself, or save it to your tablet.

character descriptions and their vocal ranges
here are dialogs for various characters that you will be asked to read as part of you auditioning for a role.
AUDITION LOCATION
Congregation Adath Israel
8 Broad Street, Middletown, CT
NOTE: Food and beverages are not allowed inside Adath Israel. You may bring in
bottled water or your own personal water bottle.
Please complete an AUDITION FORM and bring it with you to your audition.
Alternatively, you may fill one out when you arrive at auditions.
Please make sure to identify on the form any conflicts that you have with OUR REHEARSAL SCHEDULE.
If you are under 18, please have a parent of legal guardian complete a PARENTAL CONSENT FORM.
If you wish to be considered for a principal role in the show, we ask you to perform a song of your choice. It need not be from the upcoming show or even be a G&S number. Select something, preferably in English, that you think best demonstrates your singing abilities.
NOTE: Please bring a copy of the sheet music for your song for our accompanist.
We may also ask you to sing scales to further determine your vocal range.
You will be asked to read dialog for the principal role(s) in which you are interested. And, at the discretion of our director, you may also be asked to read dialog for other roles for which you might also be considered.
When you arrive at the audition, check in with the person at the reception desk. If you have already completed an audition form, hand it in at the desk. If you have not already completed an audition form, please complete one and turn it in. Please also pick up the additional handouts that are at the reception desk. Auditioners will be called in the order that they check in.
In one of our early rehearsals our choreographer will show you, and others joining the show, some basic dance movements timed to go along with music that she has selected . Grouped with other cast members, we will ask you to perform the movements you were shown so that we may assess your ability to understand and perform those basic dance moves in time to the music. This is helpful information for our choreographer and director when putting together choreography and blocking for the show.
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO JOIN CHORUS
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO AUDITION WITH US TO BE IN MEN’S OR WOMEN’S CHORUS.
If you have performed with us or with another G&S or musical theater group, or with a chorus or choir, and can carry a tune, you are welcome to join our men’s or women’s chorus.
Please complete a CHORUS REGISTRATION FORM, giving us your contact and other information.
Please make sure to identify on the form any conflicts that you have with OUR REHEARSAL SCHEDULE.
